    Obstetrician-Gynaecologist, Specialised Gynaecological Oncologist

Panagiotis Sklavounos was born in Athens and grew up in Megara, Attica. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 2007, to which he was admitted by national examinations. After completing his military service he went to Germany, where he started and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He specialised in leading hospitals in Germany, which provided the full range of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Oncology. He was awarded the title of Specialist Obstetrician-Gynaecologist after an examination in 2015.

As head of the delivery room at the University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Saarland University, he specialised in high-risk pregnancies and complicated deliveries, delivering more than 2000 newborns.

Simultaneously with his residency, he started his doctoral thesis, in which he studied different methods in the creation of the pneumoperitoneum and their complications in gynecological laparoscopic surgery. In 2016 he was awarded a doctorate from Saarland University in Germany with distinction (honors).

As a specialist Obstetrician – Gynaecologist he specialised for three years in the field of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Assisted Reproduction. During his specialisation he was involved in the monitoring and treatment of couples with infertility and gained considerable experience in modern IVF methods. In 2017 he obtained, after successful examinations, the subspecialty title of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Assisted Reproduction ( Spezielle Gynäkologische Endokrinologie und Reproduktionsmedizin).

He then received full training in the field of Gynaecological Oncology and Breast Surgery (Spezielle Gynäkologische Onkologie) and specialised in the modern treatment of gynaecological cancers under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Solomayer, a pioneering gynaecologist in the field of Laparoscopic Surgery and Gynaecological Oncology. During his 10-year stay at the University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Saarland University he performed more than 5,000 procedures across the entire spectrum of Gynaecological Surgery. In 2020 he obtained, after successful examinations, the subspecialty title of Gynaecological Oncology from the German Medical Association, and in 2021 he obtained, after successful examinations, the certification in Gynaecological Oncology from the corresponding European Society (ESGO).

As Deputy Director of the University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Saarland University, he directed and further developed the Endoscopic Centre, the Endometriosis Centre and the Urogynaecology Centre of the University Clinic. At the same time he trained from 2015 to 2021 hundreds of physicians from all over the world in Laparoscopic Surgery at the ‘European Training Center for Gynecologic Endoscopy and Gynecologic Surgery’ at Saarland University.

In 2021 he received the title of Director (Chefarzt) at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Idar-Oberstein Academic Hospital of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. From this position he was responsible for the training of the students of the Medical Faculty of the University of Mainz as well as for the training of new medical residents in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Panagiotis Sklavounos is the author of 17 publications to date in internationally recognized medical journals and has participated in the publication of three medical books. In addition, he has given more than 100 lectures at Greek and international medical conferences.
He is a member of the Athens Medical Association as well as of renowned international medical societies. He speaks two foreign languages, English and German. He is married and father of three children.

Currently, Panagiotis Sklavounos is Director of the 2nd Clinic of Gynecological Oncology at MHTERA Hospital and lecturer at the Saarland University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Germany.
